Dirt to Road time for an addition

I have been thinking about adding a road bike to my mountain bike stable . It has been so wet That the trails just do not even get a chance to dry out before the rain hits again . So I think my 27 lb mountain bike is a little heavy to ride on the road and it just wears out the tires . So I am looking at road bikes still up in the air as to what I want to buy or even should buy . So if you have any suggestions please leave a comment . Thanks
